Wildlife removal, especially, is not a walk-in-the-park job. It is fraught with safety and health risks. Besides, most wildlife control situations may not be as easy as they seem. Below you will learn how certain pests are removed from the home, or prevented from intruding there altogether:
Removing Raccoons
Raccoons are very common pests in almost every urban place. They reside in the house and the attic. They can also put up in the shed, chimney, etc. They are responsible for a number of problems. For example, they can tip over garbage cans, steal pet food, bird seed, and spread rabies as well as endanger the safety of pets.
One of the most effective ways of dealing with raccoons is trapping them. However, it is possible to deal with these animals without necessarily having to trap them. For example, all you need to do is to eliminate what draws the raccoon to your property. Pet food, garbage, decorative ponds are some things that will attract raccoons.
It is unfortunate that no effective or approved raccoon repellents are available, but never try to poison the raccoons.
If the raccoon lives outside your home but within the compound such that is a nuisance, then buy large cage traps and set them in places of high raccoon activity. Use baits such as marshmallows. When you capture a raccoon, relocate it to at least 10 miles from the capture site. However, beware of nursing female raccoons with visible nipples. Do not relocate female raccoons with visible nipples (a sign that they are nursing baby raccoons nearby.)
Removing Bats from the Attic
There are times you do not need to remove the bats all. But if you must, then there are a few rules that need to be observed: one, do not poison them; two, do not trap them in cages- you can opt for live exclusions instead; and three, it is not right to remove bats in the summer months as there are flightless baby bat pups present.
Watch out at dusk to see where exactly the bats are flying out. Go inspect the attic to find out what species of bat are there. With the aid of a ladder, seal all the holes or aperture that the bats use to get into and out of the attic. Close other open gaps not currently being used by the bats as well. Use caulk or high-density polyurethane foam. Introduce one-way exclusion devices such as funnels, netting, etc on the entry/exit areas of the bat.
After three days observe the attic to see if there are any bats that are able to enter or exit. If all bats are gone, take away the exclusion devices and seal the apertures. Lastly, disinfect the attic against airborne pathogens, mold, and odor.
Removing Snakes
Snakes are undoubtedly one of the most feared reptiles on earth. Ironically, only a few species of them are venomous.
If you have a snake infestation in your compound, it is very important and advisable that you employ a professional pest removal service to relocate the snake in a way safe for both you and the snake.
But you can prevent against snake infestation so you don’t have to call for a professional pest removal service in the first place. What you need to do is keep the lawn short and install a fence around the garden. Besides, there are a couple repellents for snakes. You can also trap the snake for removal.
Removing Rats
One of the oldest nuisances that humanity has been battling is rat infestation. They are common in city environments and thrive best where people reside. They are cause for a number of problems because they can gnaw on electrical wires, raid the kitchen pantry, and spread diseases.
What you need to do to eliminate the rat menace is to inspect inside the attic to see if the holes the rats use to enter and leave the attic. Then seal all those entry holes before you try trapping the rodents. In case that does not work, set a one-way exclusion funnel on the entry and exit holes, or, alternatively, set a minimum of 12 traps with peanut butter as the trap.
If after sometime you do not hear anymore rat sounds during the night, the removal is complete. Lastly, go to the attic, clean it and decontaminate.
There are many other pests that you might need to remove from your compound or attic. Make sure you do it appropriately and in accordance with the law. However, it is prudent to seek a pest control service as they can do the job more effectively and safely while observing the relevant regulations governing wildlife removal.
